About Us

Newton Pediatric Dentistry was created to be a welcoming and positive kids dental practice for all children, from infancy through the teen years. We are a team made up of individuals who love working with young people to help steer them towards happiness and healthiness. As soon as you walk into Newton Pediatric Dentistry, you’ll feel a warmth and friendliness that will make your kids feel right at ease with the whole experience of going to the pediatric dentist.

Our philosophy is grounded in the idea of prevention. Through regular exams, identifying risk, and developing strong healthy habits, we do our best to stop troublesome dental issues. This includes consistent thorough dental home care. We understand our role as health professionals to motivate and educate our patients, tailoring plans to their individual needs.

In the big picture, our aim is to foster patients with a positive view of pediatric dentistry. Good experiences as a child at the pediatric dentist can create a lifetime of favorable outcomes. We ask that you join us in focusing on the positive aspects of pediatric dental care so that we can all join together in creating happy patients with a great attitude towards their oral health.

Dr. Van

Dentist-1Dr. Van Orenstein grew up right here in Newton. His training allowed him to see the country from coast to coast, and after all that, he realized that Boston is a one of kind place and returned home. After attending Newton North High School and the University of Vermont, he completed his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his pediatric dental specialty at UCLA. Despite living in the Sunshine State for 5 years, Dr. Van returned so that a hometown kid could serve his community.

His favorite part about being a pediatric dentist is seeing the smile on a young person’s face after doing a great job at the visit. Dr. Van Orenstein understands that overcoming anxiety can play a big role in dentistry and he goes out of his way to approach pediatric dentistry in a positive, comforting, and friendly manner. It is amazing to see what patients can accomplish when they are listened to, supported, and then motivated.

Dr. Van Orenstein is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is one of a small number of pediatric dentists to complete this additional degree of recognized excellence in pediatric dentistry. Additionally, his two year residency in pediatric dentistry gave him extensive experience working with children and adolescents with special needs, sedation dentistry, state of the art technology, and the most up to date research in the field.

When he’s not in the office, Dr. Van loves spending time with his wife, Alli and his family. He loves to cook and can talk to you about new recipes all day long. Dr. Van is a huge Boston sports fan and loves competing in sports too.

Dr Van is active in the dental community and is a member of:

• American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD)
• College of Diplomates, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD)
• American Dental Association (ADA)
• Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (MAPD)
• Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS)
• Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity

Dr. Stephanie

The team at Newton Pediatric Dentistry is thrilled to introduce you to the latest member of our family! Dr. Stephanie Karapetian will be joining Dr. Van and the NPD team in February. Dr. Stephanie was handpicked to join our practice by Dr. Van due to her excellence in pediatric dentistry, her similarities in treatment philosophy, and the nurturing manner in which she cares for her patients. Dr. Stephanie also specializes in pediatrics and has distinguished herself in becoming a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Stephanie strongly believes that implementing healthy habits and taking time to explain the importance of oral health to both children and their parents is a crucial part of having a healthy future. During her specialty training at NYU, she received a wide range of experience working with children with craniofacial anomalies, special needs, as well as children with complex medical histories.

Dr. Stephanie grew up in Los Angeles, California. As a youngster, she was involved in musical theater, playing the piano, and she can tap dance! After moving here from New York, Dr. Stephanie is very excited to be living the Boston area to serve the Newton community. When not in the office, Dr. Stephanie enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and friends, cooking, reading, and trying new restaurants. In addition to practicing dentistry, she has been working with NYU to create a new dental outreach program to Armenia, where her heritage lies, to facilitate care for the children there who have no access to dental care.
